Science fair

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method preparing  for the science fair. My group is Imogen, Taleshia and AJ we are testing for iron in cereals. Before we can test we created a google form to have some student voice in our science fair project. We found out that the most favourite cereals are Nutrigrain, Ricies, Coco pops, Weetbix and Milo. To test these cereals we have to crush up the cereals and hold a magnet to the cereal and see if anything moves. If the cereal moves that means it might have a trace of metallic iron. Our next step would be testing for iron in watered cereal.

Graphs

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about graphs.
A graph is a chart that shows the data you’ve collected.
I enjoyed gathering the data. I found it difficult to choose the right graph.
We were also experimenting with the average. We had to experiment with
the line graph, the pie chart, bar graph and column charts.

Rocket science

In Te Ngahere we have been making  paper rockets.
We were learning to follow the scientific method.
I engoyed making the paper rocket, I found it hard not to change a variable.
To make paper rockets you will need paper, a straw, scissors and tape.
First get your bit of paper and cut it into quarters,
use one of those quarters and wrap it around the straw, now tape it so it will hold.
Now pull the paper off the straw.
After that pinch one end of the paper and tape it so it stays.
Now cut 4 triangles and stick them to the end that you didn’t pinch.
To make your rocket fly put the straw back  in and blow.
After we made our rockets we had to measure them and put our data on a
spreadsheet program and turn it into a graph. After that we had to make a modified
version then we had to measure it  and put our data on a spreadsheet program and
turn it into a graph.
